About me

I have been a student of spirituality and metaphysics all of my life. In this first half of a century, I believe I have learned a few things... but I realize that I don't know it all.

The journey is never finished. We are always where we are supposed to be, doing what we are supposed to be doing, and Spirit has posted road signs so we are never truly lost.

I am passionately committed to exploring and learning more; and to sharing what I discover with others who may find areas of common interest.

Please consider what I offer, and simply leave anything that does not resonate with you where you found it.

Mississippi Crossings - my articles and photography of my home

I have discovered a few things on my path:

bullet

God (Spirit, Universal Intelligence) is Love, and Love is all there is.

bullet

Every single condition or situation in my life is reflecting how much I love myself.

bullet

There is no waiting until I arrive to be happy, to be fulfilled, to be loving and loved. There is only now, only the Journey.

There is no destination the journey is the thing.

We are exactly where we are supposed to be, doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing. Every thing happens for a reason and a purpose, and it is for the highest and best good of all concerned, despite any appearance to the contrary. There is value in where we are, right now, at this point in our journey.

It is all about loving my Self - my Inner Being, but just as importantly my unique individual expression of Universal Life Force Energy through my personality and my heart and my body and my mind in the physical - acknowledging my part in the Whole, loving and appreciating All That Is with all my heart and soul, and realizing that in God we all live and move and have our being.  God is Love; God is All That Is; Love is All That Is - therefore, I am a part of God, and I am Love.

When I was born, I was very young... or was I?

I was born in Amory, Mississippi, USA; in fact, the hospital where I was born has been turned into a museum!  My family lived in the community of Wren in rural Monroe County. Wren is 30 miles South of Tupelo, birthplace of Elvis Presley.

I had plenty of fresh air and lots of time to play outside. I had woods and fields to roam and creeks to wade in. We had a vegetable garden for fresh veggies like tomatoes, butter beans, and corn, and my parents raised beef cattle, and sometimes chickens and pigs. We rented small farms until my parents bought the place where they still live when I was ten years old.

Can you imagine what a wonderful place this was to grow up?  I spent a lot of time as a kid wandering, writing stories in my imagination, and in journals and diaries.

The nature of Life and God fascinated me.

I was raised in a Southern Baptist church, attending Sunday School every Sunday morning, followed by the service. We went to every Revival, every Vacation Bible School, and many Sunday night and Wednesday night services. In a small community in the South (USA), the church was a center of social life in the 1950s and '60s.

After one of these Revival services, I had a horrible nightmare about the end of the world in fire and brimstone! With God portrayed as an angry, vengeful judge eager to cast "sinners" into an eternal lake of fire, you just couldn't be sure you had appeased Him. Even Jesus, His "only begotten son," died horribly.

Needless to say, I spent my young religious life "fearing God" quite literally.

Other ways of seeing God

As a child, it never occurred to me to look past the archetype of God as the vengeful Judge seated on a great white throne with a long white beard and a perpetual frown; lightening bolts shooting out from his head. The picture of God as the disciplinarian Father was not comforting. My father was a good man who believed "spare the rod, spoil the child." I often found my self on the receiving end of that philosophy and it did not make me feel loving, trusting, or secure in either my father's love nor God's.

Wandering about the woods and fields of my childhood home presented a different way of seeing God - a different God entirely.

Nature doesn't have to make sense. It is pure beauty and pure raw Life Force Energy at the same time. It is drama and it is so easy to feel one with nature when we spend a little quiet time in it. I saw Nature Spirits in every living thing and rural Mississippi is unsurpassed in natural beauty: plants and flowers and wildlife.

Books as windows to the world

On my web site I recommend and promote many, many books. Books have always been a window to the world for me. I have loved to read all of my life and I quickly learned that the lower middle class rural lifestyle I was in did not encompass the whole world.

There were other religions, too, and not just Methodists! There were entire portions of the world that were not Christian and did not want to be converted! There were spiritual practices such as meditation and Wiccan ritual and High Magick as well as Buddhism, Hinduism, Muslim, Hebrew... the varieties were endless.

At the end of my fifth grade year, the tiny rural school I had attended was closed and the children were sent to the schools in nearby Amory. It was just as well since I had read all the books in the library that I was allowed to read (the adult section was off-limits!). I wasn't very happy. The discovery of a much larger library in Amory Middle School was my saving grace. And in this library I found a whole section on Egypt. In their zeal to provide books on ancient Egyptian civilization, the librarians included several books on Egyptian mystery and magic. What an eye-opener!

After that, there was no stopping me! I read every thing I could find on other spiritual beliefs and practices. Granted, that wasn't a whole lot in the mid-60s in a public school library in Mississippi.

My older brother, the natural genius/athlete, had developed a passion for science fiction. I began swiping his books and reading them. Many I threw back because of the gore or the graphic sex, but a lot were intriguing. The main thing about the science fiction and fantasy genre is that the entire story is built upon a different way of looking at the world and life.

Discovering Self-Help and Personal Development: the 1970s

In 8th grade I wrote a novel about an awkward teen girl who did a complete personal makeover during summer break. The heroine was an overweight, shy girl who transformed herself by losing weight and exercising a lot. The entire premise was that as an overweight, shy girl there was something "wrong" with her and that is why she felt so insecure. Once she "fixed" what was wrong, i.e., losing weight and getting in great physical shape, her shyness and poor self image was "cured." That was my belief about self-help and personal development when I was 12.

One day I found a copy of Varieties of Religious Experience, by the Harvard philosopher/psychologist William James. (here is a link to a great William James web site: http://www.emory.edu/EDUCATION/mfp/james.html ) It was another eye opening book.  I also found a fun volume on witchcraft - happy little spells for beginners!  How that ended up in my school library is beyond me.  Again... different ways to look at the world.  Seeing value in differences, seeing value in things unseen before, ideas, thoughts... it is a wide wonderful world out there and the journey is the thing!

In college (I earned my B.A. in history at Mississippi State University), between partying and class, I began to study self-hypnosis, the art of trying to change how I perceived the world - a short-cut, if you will.  I made a wonderful trip through the western U. S., and while in Berkley, California, I found an old book store where I purchased a bunch of occult books for very little money and also got an address for Samuel Weiser book publishers on the back of a paperback. After that I spent more for books, tarot cards, and incense than I did for wine.

Becoming someone's mom

I had not really thought past graduating college.  My dreams and plans for my life were really amorphous.  I was drifting, and having trouble figuring out what I wanted to do with my life.  I began to imagine a home and a family of my own, what that would be like.  I imagined an intelligent, capable husband and most of all, I dreamed of having a child.  That's what symbolized home and family for me.

My first husband was exactly as I asked for - he was the result of a conscious creative visualization project almost to the letter. (you can read about how that worked for me here: 3 Keys to Creative Visualization) And my first child - a beautiful little daughter - was the creation of the longings of my heart. I had not consciously used a creative visualization project to attract her into my life, but Law of Attraction worked from the image of home and family that I held in my heart.

Her dad worked away from home for a couple of months before she was born, so I had long stretches of time by myself to think about being pregnant and being a mom.  I thought of all the things I wanted to teach my child.
